On the afternoon of October 3, at the Sekong Provincial Military Command (Laos), the 8th Joint Conference in 2024 took place between the Sekong Provincial Military Command (Lao PDR) and the Quang Nam Provincial Military Command (Socialist Republic of Vietnam). Colonel Som-chit Ni-la-Phon, Political Commander of the Sekong Provincial Military Command, and Colonel Mai Kim Binh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Military Party Committee, Political Commissar of the Quang Nam Provincial Military Command co-chaired the conference.
The report at the conference showed that in 2023 and 2024, the coordination work of the military commands of the two provinces of Se Kong—Quang Nam has achieved encouraging results, promoting the tradition of solidarity, special friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, people, and armed forces of the two countries in general and the two provinces of Quang Nam—Se Kong in particular.
Notably, the Military Commands of the two provinces have done a good job advising the Party Committees and authorities to lead, direct, operate, and organize the implementation of military and defense tasks, creating favorable conditions for the socio-economic development tasks of the localities. Directing the strengthening of coordination in exchanging information, patrolling, preventing all types of crimes that harm border security, and protecting the National Border Marker. In addition, the two sides have also regularly exchanged information on the situation and sent letters of greetings and congratulations on important political events of each country. Regularly exchanged delegations of officials' families to visit and relax between the two localities.
In particular, in military and defense work, in October 2023, the two sides coordinated to advise the leaders of the two provincial governments to direct Ka Lum district to coordinate with Tay Giang district to organize a drill on natural disaster prevention - rescue, rescue, and handling of flood and landslide situations in the border area with good results. During this drill, the Military Command of Quang Nam province organized the construction and presented to the people of Ta Vang village a friendship project: a solar-powered lighting system worth 100 million VND; presented Border Company 534 of Laos with 01 motorbike to serve patrol work; organized medical examinations and provided medicine for 200 people, and presented 51 gifts to households in border villages.
In the spirit of openness, solidarity, friendship, camaraderie, and mutual respect, the two sides discussed and agreed on the contents of cooperation in the coming time, including continuing to improve the quality and effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation between the two provinces' armed forces, contributing to maintaining the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of each country.
At the conference, the Military Command of Se Kong Province (Laos) and the Military Command of Quang Nam Province (Vietnam) signed the minutes of the 8th joint conference in 2024.
