Implementing the provisions of the 2020 Environmental Protection Law on greenhouse gas emission mitigation

In his opening speech at the conference, Mr. Vo Nhu Toan - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said that in the context of climate change, which has been increasingly affecting many areas of human life, such as increasing heat, storms and floods, especially in coastal localities such as Quang Nam.

The work of inventorying and managing greenhouse gases plays a vital role. Implementing the provisions of the 2020 Environmental Protection Law on greenhouse gas emission mitigation is a task that is not only a matter of compliance with the law but also a responsibility to the environment of businesses and the community.

Conducting greenhouse gas inventories is not only a mandatory task under the Law on Environmental Protection but also an important foundation for developing effective emission reduction solutions, contributing to limiting the impact of climate change. This is also an opportunity for units and enterprises to review production and business processes, find emission reduction solutions, change and apply modern technology to increase production efficiency, improve product quality, save energy, and protect the environment.

The reporter of the Department of Greenhouse Gas Emission Management and Ozone Layer Protection, Department of Climate Change (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), also provided an overview of climate change and current policies on greenhouse gas emission reduction, the greenhouse gas inventory appraisal process. Thereby contributing to implementing Vietnam's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

The conference also answered delegates' opinions on greenhouse gas emission reduction in businesses and the community.
