Commencement of the project to prevent erosion of Hoi An's coastline with a total cost of nearly 1,000 billion VND

Hoi An's coastline is a beautiful coastline recognized as the most beautiful in Asia. Since 2014, it has suffered severe erosion, losing its beaches and damaging infrastructure along the coast.

In the face of the urgent need to protect the coastline from the risk of further erosion inland, Quang Nam province has had many construction solutions to overcome the erosion situation, which have initially shown effectiveness. However, due to limited funding, only about 2.3km out of more than 6km of coastline that needs to be protected has been implemented.

The Hoi An Coastal Erosion Prevention and Sustainable Protection Project, funded by AFD and the EU, has a total investment of 42 million euros (equivalent to 982.2 billion VND). Of which, ODA loan capital is 35 million euros, non-refundable aid capital is 2 million euros, and counterpart capital is 5 million euros.

The project will effectively reduce coastal erosion, ensure the safety of people's lives, promote business activities, especially in the tourism sector, create more job opportunities, and enhance the resilience of local people to the impacts of climate change.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu assessed that the Hoi An Coastal Erosion Prevention and Sustainable Protection Project is one of the province's key projects of special significance and importance in contributing to ensuring the stability of the Hoi An coastline. The implementation and completion of the project are expected to effectively contribute to reducing coastal erosion, ensuring the safety of people's lives, and promoting business activities.
