This morning, November 26, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province organized a tree-planting campaign to celebrate 65 years of Vietnam Forestry Day (November 28, 1959 - November 28, 2024). Attending the launch ceremony was the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu, leaders of departments, and branches, and a large number of people, students, and pupils in Duy Xuyen district.
Here, leaders, cadres, civil servants, public employees, pupils, and people planted 700 pine trees on an area of 0.5 hectares at Vinh Trinh Monument Relic Site, Vinh Trinh village, Duy Hoa commune, Duy Xuyen district.
This is an important event, not only promoting the simple tree planting movement but also marking the efforts of Quang Nam province in mobilizing and encouraging the development of indigenous forests and large timber trees in a sustainable direction, protecting natural resources and the environment, and responding to climate change.
According to the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province, Pham Viet Tich, to achieve the goals of environmental protection and responding to climate change, Quang Nam province has actively implemented many programs and projects on tree planting and forest development. From 2021 to 2024, the whole province has planted nearly 3,600 hectares of forest with almost 40 million trees, reaching 77% of the target assigned under the 1 billion trees program launched by the Prime Minister. This is a proud result, increasing forest cover from 48.3% (in 2011) to 58.88% (in 2023).
The goal set for the 2021-2025 period is for Quang Nam province to plant 51.6 million trees, thereby contributing to protecting natural resources, minimizing the impact of climate change, preventing floods, landslides, etc.; at the same time, raising public awareness in protecting and developing forests, supporting people's livelihoods through programs and projects supporting forest economic development.
