On the morning of May 18, the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to listen to the DNIIT International Institute of Technology under the University of Da Nang introduce the Project of Geological Initiative and Environmental Protection in Da Nang and Quang Nam. Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Thai Binh chaired the meeting.
According to the report of the DNIIT International Institute of Technology, landslides and environmental monitoring technology in Quang Nam province and Da Nang city always receive top attention from countries around the world. With tropical monsoon weather, red soil geology, and high humidity, the Central region of Vietnam (including Quang Nam and Da Nang city) is very susceptible to related natural disasters.
With its technological strengths, the project aims to research and apply in Quang Nam according to the system of signal monitoring and warning of natural disasters. In particular, the system of sensors connected to floating radar at sea to effectively warn of natural disasters, especially tsunamis and earthquakes.
The project also aims to provide solutions to minimize and overcome the risk of flooding and landslides in Quang Nam and Da Nang City; educate and raise awareness of natural phenomena, the risk of extreme phenomena, and geological science for the community.
Through the application of fiber optic cables, transmitting information signals, the project helps collect data related to geology, earthquakes, and the operation, monitoring, and regulation of the urban traffic system, towards a safe and sustainable living space for people and the community.
At the meeting, the DNIIT International Institute of Technology hopes that Quang Nam will support the establishment of monitoring stations and experimental stations to transmit natural disaster warning databases.
Speaking at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Thai Binh said that in recent times, Quang Nam has always faced landslides on riverbanks and coasts, especially landslides in mountainous districts. Mr. Phan Thai Binh acknowledged that the project is very suitable for the smart city that Quang Nam is implementing.
