Quang Nam approves Co Tu script
On April 22, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province issued a decision approving the Co Tu script at the request of the Department of Education and Training.
Accordingly, the Co Tu script includes: Letters for recording single consonants (27 consonants), Letters for recording initial consonant combinations (Co Tu language has 16 initial consonant combinations), Letters for recording vowels: (27 vowels), Letters for recording final consonants (17 consonants and consonant combinations) and regulations on how to record words in the Co Tu language.
The People's Committee of Quang Nam province assigned the Department of Education and Training to advise on preparing documents and procedures to request the Ministry of Education and Training to approve and accept the teaching of ethnic minority languages in educational institutions in the province according to the provisions of Circular No. 32/2021/TT-BGDDT dated November 22, 2021, of the Minister of Education and Training.
This set of characters is used to compile and issue training programs and documents to organize training, fostering, and granting certificates for the Co Tu ethnic language according to the provisions of Circular No. 09/2023/TT-BGDDT dated April 18, 2023, of the Minister of Education and Training promulgating regulations on organizing training, fostering and granting certificates for ethnic minority languages.
Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam also organized 2 Workshops on "Unifying a set of characters for the Co Tu people in Vietnam" with the participation of scientists, intellectual representatives who are Co Tu people from Quang Nam province, and Hue city and related departments, branches, localities, and units to reach a consensus.
