Quang Nam mobilizes more than 6.7 billion VND to care for and support Agent Orange victims
On the morning of January 3, 2025, the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims of Quang Nam Province held a conference to summarize the association's work in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu attended.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Khanh - Chairman of the Provincial Association of Dioxin Victims said that the province has established 12 District Associations; 102 communes have established independent Associations with 436 village and block Associations (an increase of 9 Associations compared to 2023).
During the year, 217 new members were admitted, bringing the total number of members in the province to 7,483. Attention has been paid to training, propaganda, and improving knowledge and professional skills for officials at all levels of the association.
The province currently has 5,000 Agent Orange victims receiving policies; Among the 3,234 victims of 12 District Associations, there are 2,664 first-generation victims and 570 second-generation victims, and about 42 third-generation victims. The number of victim households with especially difficult circumstances is 197 households, and 158 victims who have just received preferential policies.
Through many forms of appeal, the Associations at all levels have mobilized more than 6.7 billion VND from individuals, groups, and organizations. This mobilized source has supported and helped regularly more than 8,200 victims; at the same time, supported the repair and construction of 9 new houses for members in difficulty; 14 members were supported with means of livelihood; care, rehabilitation, and education for 35 victims at the Center for Supporting Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and Children with Disabilities in the province, etc.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu highly appreciated the results achieved by the Association of Dioxin Victims at all levels in the past year, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province, especially in caring for Agent Orange victims and the disadvantaged.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu suggested that the Provincial Association promote the achieved results, continue to maintain and expand relationships with foreign non-governmental organizations operating in Vietnam and Quang Nam, along with departments, branches, sectors and unions to effectively implement projects to support and care for Agent Orange victims in a timely and effective manner.
